Ken Block to bring Gymkhana down-under to Melbourne

Yep that’s right Ken Block is bringing his awesome Gymkhana show down under in September 2011
It has been announced today that Ken Block will be doing a gymkhana demo at Calder Park Raceway on Saturday the 3rd of September
Calder Raceway is located around 20km from the centre of Melbourne. It is home to a 2km racetrack, a drag strip and Australia’s only 24 degree banked super speedway called the Thunderdome. It will be interesting to see which track will be used, the racetrack or the Thunderdome, there is a tunnel between the two tracks so could be interesting to see if they do a cross over

KEN BLOCK GYMKHANA COMING TO OZ

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Melbourne, Australia – Following months of speculation, Monster Energy Australia today confirmed World Rally sensation, Ken Block, will be bringing his Gymkhana World Tour to Melbourne’s Calder Park for a one-off Australian show on Saturday, September 3.
The action sports icon, who will also contest the Australian round of the World Rally Championship, will bring to life the phenomenal action of his world-renowned Gymkhana video clips.
With his specially modified Ford Fiesta to be flown in for this event, Block said he was excited to be visiting Australia for the first time.
“I’m stoked to be coming down to Australia for one of the stops of my Gymkhana World Tour,” Block stated. “My visit is shaping up to be wild.
“We’re coming down and doing a ton of different things during my visit, and, I’m not just there for the World Tour. I’m also racing in WRC Australia the following week. I can’t wait; it’s going to be a very fun couple of weeks for me.
“One of the great things about the Gymkhana World Tour down in Australia is that it’s free to the public, so everyone can come. I hope everybody that wants to see it can make it out because it’s going be amazing.
“Watching the gymkhana car slide around live in-person is much better than seeing it in video, so I hope everyone that is interested in seeing this can make it out,” Block continued.
In confirming the Australian leg of Ken Block’s Gymkhana World Tour, Monster Energy Australasian Manager Adrian Hunter said that Block would be joined by some of Australia’s leading motorsport athletes.
“The rumour of Ken Block coming down under has been circulating for a while and Monster Energy Australia are very excited to officially announce that Ken Block’s Gymkhana World Tour will be coming to Melbourne,” Hunter confirmed.
“This project has been close to a year in the making and we delighted to not only have Ken coming to Australia, but to also be putting on a live event for the public. Part of Monster Energy’s mantra is to look after our athletes, and give back to our consumers, so what better way to do that, than by putting on an event like this.
“We will be pulling out all stops on this event which will also include Monster Energy athletes such as Jamie Whincup, Shane Van Gisbergen, Andrew Thompson, Matt Mingay, Shane Tucker and the Monster Energy Showtime FMX Freestyle team,” Hunter said.
To celebrate Ken’s Gymkhana World Tour Monster Energy and Ford are giving Australian fans the chance to win a $75,000 Ford voucher. To enter, simply purchase a Monster Energy Original 500ml or 4 pack from any retail outlet in Australia, go to www.monsterenergy.com and enter the last 5 digits of the barcode. Every entry goes into the Daily Prize Draw to win a DC Shoe Voucher and DC / Monster t-shirt.
Further details on how to secure tickets to Ken Block’s Gymkhana World Tour will be released in the coming weeks.
