The Subaru WRX Club Spec is back and its Wild.. plus the Club Spec History

Subaru Impreza WRX Club Spec Special Edition in Tangerine Orange

Subaru Australia  has today announced that their popular Club Spec special edition WRX models will be back and will go on sale next month.
Subaru Australia have been releasing these  limited edition Club Spec models since the mid ninties. Most of the models have had some form of luxury pack upgrade.
More after the jump

The Club Spec 4 from 2000 was the first to have a radical paint colour.
The Impreza WRX Limited Edition Club Spec Evo 4. Just 300 of these special editions were sold in Australia: 250 sedans and 50 hatches. Sporting a rare yellow colour scheme, the Club Spec Evo 4 included a broad range of value-added features. And each car was individually numbered, further enhancing its special appeal. The Club Spec Evo 4 featured black alloy wheels, a Momo airbag steering wheel, STi type metal finished instruments, an AM/FM radio with CD player and tweeter speakers in the front door handles. And of course there was limited edition badging on the rear doors and boot lid. In the sedan, yellow trim inserts also highlight the seats.

Then in 2002 Subaru again went with a radical colour choice of Orange on the Club Spec 5
Subaru Impreza WRX Club Spec Evo 5, featured an eye-catching orange paint scheme and extra features. The Club Spec EVO 5 included a full electric factory-fitted sunroof, the first time this option had been available on any model Impreza WRX. It also got a 2DIN AM/FM radio cassette with six-stack in-dash CD changer. Special decals and badging were featured outside, while each model was individually numbered on the centre console.Just 140 Impreza WRX Evo 5 sedans and 60 hatches were sold, all with manual transmissions

Since Club Spec 5 there really hasn’t been any real wild Club Spec color versions

Subaru Impreza WRX Club Spec 7

The 6 & 7 versions were fairly standard in colour options
Subaru Impreza WRX Club Spec 8

The Club Spec 8 did come in a nice Gold/Champagne colour
Subaru Impreza WRX Club Spec 9

The Club Spec 9 looked pretty hot, although it didn’t come in any really different colours.
It did have some nice exterior additions, New 18-inch wheels and tyres provided a sharper, sportier feel and when teamed with the STI suspension kit lowers the car by 15 mm, giving a more aggressive stance.
It also included a STI front lip spoiler, the first time one appeared on a club Spec model, another first was the unique CS9 Club Spec grille badge.
Subaru Impreza WRX Club Spec 10

The first Club Spec edition in the new shape Impreza in 2010, went back to being purely a inside luxury upgrade, with some STi items on the outside.
A STI front lip spoiler, lightweight, 17-inch Enkei alloy wheels and inside it got factory-fitted leather seats, sunroof and satellite navigation.
Now this brings us to this new 2012 edition, it will not be another mild edition Club spec.
It will be featured in two colours, black and a very bright Tangerine orange, which I think will look fantastic in the metal.
Subaru has also gone all out on the external modifications as well, raiding the STi parts bin.
They have fitted 17″ Alloy wheels, a awesome looking STi rear spoiler, black door mirrors and the option to fit a STi front lip.
If this all sounds good to you, I wouldn’t waist anytime in getting to your dealerships as there will only be 300 of these made.
Good work Subaru for bringing back an awesome stand out looking Club Spec model, now what to buy a Club Spec or a BRZ ? Hmmmmm

Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: “WRX continues to have tremendous appeal in its widebody form and combined with the retained value traditionally achieved by these limited editions, there’s likely to be a lot of interest in these cars, which can be differentiated even further from standard WRX with the addition of the STI kit.”
