Review – Sony MDRZX750BN Bluetooth and Digital Noise Cancelling Headphones

Sony MDRZX750BN Bluetooth & Digital Noise Cancelling Headphones
Noise cancelling headphones have to be one of the best recent inventions, they are great for those that travel on planes, trains and buses, and want to be able to enjoy their audio experience with out outside noise disturbing them.
Bose has owned this market for the last few years but more and more manufactures are now bringing out their own product.

Sony has been in the audio trade for many years, they invented the Walkman in 1979,  so creating headphones was just the next logical step for their business, so you would expect them to make a noise cancelling unit at some stage.
We recently tested one of Sony’s newest pairs of noise cancelling headphones.
The Sony  MDRZX750BN Bluetooth and Digital Noise Cancelling Headphones are a hybrid device, they are part headphone part handsfree phone headset.

The MDRZX750BN’s have many modes,

  • Normal headphones, no power needed just plug in and away you go.
  • Noise cancelling (NC) headphones, which are powered by the inbuilt battery.
  • Bluetooth audio connection to devices, which allows wireless connection for audio streaming.
  • Bluetooth wireless call hands free connection for smartphones

The controls for the headphones are split between the two sides of the unit.
On the left side are the Power button, the NC on/off button, headphone cable input, reset button, micro usb charging port and the microphone phone calls.
On the right side are another microphone, volume + & – controls and a toggle switch that is used as a Play/Pause/FWD/RWD and accept/reject button for phone calls.
The NC mode uses a very clever Artificial Intelligence to asses the situation the headphones are being used in and it then selects the best mode to help to reduce the most amount of ambient noise.
In our testing we found it did the job very well, in an office situation it removed the noise of air conditioner and made the room sound totally silent.
On a plane flight it helped to remove the drone of the engine noise and when you are listening to audio it is very hard to hear any external noise.
The battery life on the headphones are very impressive, during an 8 hr flight the unit was used almost the entire time with NC active and there was still battery life left at the end of it.
When using the headphones as a handsfree device for your phone, the call quality is very clear and the people on the other end of the call said that they could hear me very clearly.

The unit comes complete with a good little travel kit, which includes a USB charging cable, a airline connection jack and pouch, the only problem with this is that the pouch has no inner pocket to put the cables and the connection jack so it can be easily lost when pulling the items out of the bag.
In the end we were very impressed with the unit and its features and for the price when compared to the other units in the market place it is great value for money.
